The program was started in 2003. By 2006, Wreath layings occurred
at all 15 overseas American cemeteries
that contain WWII dead. With many thanks
to Project Coordinator Sharon Crowley Connor.
For a history of this project, told by its originator, Click Here!
The American Battle Monuments
Commission (ABMC) carefully and caringly maintains
American cemeteries and memorials
around the world. 15 of the American cemeteries
(represented by the buttons
below) contain WWII dead.
With
the help of AWON travelers, reporters, and stagers, we hope to include here
practical information on both Overseas and Domestic cemeteries of WWII.
You'll find maps, hours, seasons,
accommodations, exchange rates, languages,
lore and other helpful hints
that will make a visit to one of these destinations easier and
more fulfilling. In time (and
with help) we hope to be able to provide pictures of our
Fathers' markers and memorials
wherever they exist in the world.
Manila was
our prototype -- compiled and staged by Patty Temte.
Margraten was our second entry, staged by Gerry Morenski
and Patty Temte.
Normandy was our third cemetery completed. It was compiled
by Lynn Taylor
and Jean-Marc Lesueur and staged by Patty.
Henri-Chapelle
and Ardennes are completed now, staged by Régine Achten-Villers and Patty Temte.
AWON Volunteers who would like to "adopt" an overseas cemetery (or Honolulu, above) and who are willing to
compile, stage, and maintain similar information on a range of subjects, including Fathers' Lists -- should contact
Patty -- Click Here! Cemeteries maintained by the ABMC (American Battle Monuments Commission) are below.Click through to AWON pages maintained on the cemeteries shown in BLUE.
