Jack was from Utica, NY. He completed basic training at Camp Croft, SC, and served with Co. "G", 2nd Inf Rgt, 5th Inf Div. He died as a result of an artillery explosion near Metz, France, on 11/10/44. He was tall, dark haired, outgoing, and probably always writing letters home. He mentions several buddies in his letters: Ben LaGrassa (Brooklyn, NY), Jerry Nuber (Utica, NY), Albert O'Donnell (New Haven), and Phil Paluch (Buffalo, NY). I would love to talk with anyone who knew him. He also mentions a friend named Pfc Hintz (Milwaukee, WI) from the same company. He and my father were buried beside one another in the cemetery at Limey, France. I would be interested to know if this man left a family, and if he and my father died in the same explosion. |
