1st Cavalry is featured in a movie "We Were Soldiers" - Also from what I understand it is the only horse mounted unit still in existence - the movie was about the 7th Cavalry (Part of the 1st as I understand the organization)- the 5th Cavalry is mentioned in the movie "MacArthur" on invasion of the Philippines. In the "We Were Soldiers" it is best to get the DVD so you can see interview of Col Moore who led the battle - he is now a Lt. Gen. - I wrote to the museum at Killeen for information - If you go let me know how it is. | ||

Gloria - see following web site for 1st Cavalry - http://www.vvm.com/~firstcav/ They will have a reunion in Killeen Tex in June - also they have a publication "The Saber" - I intend to advertise in it about my father According to the book "The Admiralties" your father was probably killed in battle for Old Rossun road; 11 KIA 29 injured on 3/22 - I think my father called the air support but not sure. | ||

Gloria - I have just realized that my father was with the 1st Calvary - my father (Capt George F. Frederick) was leader of the 12th Air Liason Party - He was killed in the Admiralty Islands on March 30, 1944. I was looking to see if there was anything posted to lead me to a reunion (if any) of the 1st Calvary. On March 22, 1944 the 1st was on Manus Island - main island of the Admiraltys - there is a book about it that you can get in the government book store - I'm not at home now but will try to get you more info - Clint Frederick | ||
