I am actually looking for information on the 197th Field Artillery Battalion's activities on August 10-11, 1944, but this is the best option I could find.
My great uncle was KIA on (his paperwork says) August 11, 1944. There were rumors at the time that it was a friendly fire incident but his family never found out for sure. I know that sounds controversial, but this question is purely for family history's sake - not for any political or legal use.
His name was Fred Benjamin, his commanding officer was Lt.Col. Patrick Seawright.
Any help in researching this would be appreciated!
