George Errold Cropley came
to the dedication with his conservator, Peter Dutson,
Adjutant of Narraguagus Post No. 8, Cherryfield, Maine. While in D.C., they
visited the Capitol.
An AWON Member since 1996,
George is the son of Errold Cropley –
who served in the 88th Division and died in Italy in May 1944.
George, who is an AWON
member and Lifetime Charter Member of the Memorial,
stands in front of the Maine Pillar. His father was PFC Errold Cropley, Co
I,
350th Inf, KIA, May 14, 1944 in Italy with the 88th Division.
George was personally thanked
for his sacrifice by Former President Bill Clinton
and Maine's Senator Susan Collins while he was attending the dedication
of the National WWII Memorial.
