Opening Ceremonies . . . Friday, May 28, 2004 • JW Marriott

The Colors are presented by the George Washington Naval ROTC Color Guard,
while CNN filmed the Opening Ceremonies of the AWON Conference.

AWON Founder Ann Bennett Mix offers opening remarks.

Conference MC Bob Meek presents a flower to Bernita Chambers Morrison Shoemake,
mother of Doni Morrison Troglio, left, as flowers were presented to all gold star wives in attendance.

The Opening Ceremonies Video "We Speak Their Names" (produced by
Terry Boettcher, with graphics and editing by Pat Tierney), was played
to a packed Salon I. There was hardly a dry eye in the house.

A well-deserved standing O for Pat Tierney, the 15-year-old genius
behind the Boettcher Video – "We Speak Their Names."

Connie Boettcher and Video producer & Board Member Terry Boettcher
explain the production process to Conference Co-Chair Penny Sue LeGrand.

First Speaker: LTC Johnie E. Webb, USA (Ret.), Senior Advisor to the Commanding General,
U.S. Pacific Command, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command. LTC Webb used to run

CILHI (Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii) the unit that identified the remains of

both 2LT George P. Gaffney, Jr. (Patricia Kindig's Father) and MAJ Earl R. Kindig

(Mike Kindig's Father) in the Finesterre Mountains of Papua New Guinea.

The color guard shot above is thanks to Dianne Baczynski; the flower presentation
