Denyce Graves sings the National Anthem.

 

Representative Marcy Kaptur, who first introduced the legislation to develop
the National WWII Memorial in 1987 speaks to the gathering of more
than 150,000 people, including many AWON members.

AWON Founder Ann Bennett Mix, upper right, watches Senator Bob Dole
wave to the crowd. Dole, Chairman of the WWII Memorial, had been the keynote speaker
the day before at the kickoff of the AWON National Conference.

 

Annie is in good company among the dignitaries and veterans.
Along the front are Fred Smith of FedEx, Co-Chair of the Memorial, and
NBC Anchor Tom Brokaw. Colin Powell and Don Rumsfeld are on the right.

Actor Tom Hanks shares his perspectives, having been so well known for his
portrayal of Captain John Miller in the 1998 Spielberg film, Saving Private Ryan.
