The first step in the sculpture by Fred Hoppe, Jr.

Each figure is modeled after an actual combat veteran, one from each of the fifty states.
The sculpture is 70' long, weighs 15 tons, and is surrounded by the names
of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in World War II.

 

The fifty soldiers depict a landing on a foreign beach.
