were called "DUKWs -- amphibious craft used for more serious duty than hauling tourists
.

We looked it up. Here's the story on those DUKW creatures:

This Duck required a Quacker to signify especially bad jokes
told by Veteran bad joke teller, Captain Scott.

Lest anyone think we weren't on a serious AWON Mission, the DUKW Tour
included several interesting WWII vehicles collected (and displayed) by the company's owner.
